Dahlia Floristry Class – Frida Kahlo

On Wednesday 19th August, 6–7:30pm, we’re doing a completely new Floristry class. A one-off, late summer floral experience inspired by the bold, expressive world of Frida Kahlo, where flowers don’t sit politely in a vase — they become something far more alive than that. At the centre of it all is the dahlia — dramatic, architectural, and unapologetically in season — supported by richly textured blooms inspired by Mexico, including marigolds and other late summer flowers at their peak. This is colour, form and instinct, all working together. Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her deeply personal, symbolic, and emotionally powerful artwork. She became an iconic figure not just in art, but in culture more broadly — representing strength, individuality, and unapologetic self-expression. Her distinctive personal style (floral crowns, traditional Mexican clothing, and bold adornment) has also made her a lasting visual inspiration, especially in creative and floral design work like your workshop. You’ll be creating a floral face/head arrangement in a sculptural concrete vessel — part arrangement, part artwork, part something a little unexpected. Think expressive, slightly wild, and completely individual. No two will look the same, because they’re not meant to. This is about stepping away from “perfect” and leaning into something more instinctive — building with flowers in a way that feels creative, immersive, and a little bit fearless. By the end of the evening, you’ll leave with a finished sculptural piece in its vessel — something bold enough to stand on its own as an object, not just an arrangement and designed to feel like you’ve made something you wouldn’t normally give yourself permission to make.
