Professional Floristry Tools for Flower Arranging

Having the right professional floristry tools for flower arranging can make a significant difference in the quality and ease of your work. Below are some of the best floristry tools that every floral designer should consider adding to their toolkit.

The Most Important Tool Used by a Floral Designer

While opinions may vary, one of the most important tools used by a floral designer is a reliable pair of Floristry scissors. The right pair of scissors can make a huge difference in the precision and ease of cutting flower stems. For keen flower arrangers, I wholeheartedly recommend the strong and sturdy Oasis Floral Ippon Scissors as these really are the best scissors for flower arranging either at home or in a flower workshop class. Oasis Floral Products UK kindly sent us a new pair of these to try out, and I can honestly say these are the best tools for cutting flowers! Oasis Ippon Scissors are the perfect tool, sitting nicely between standard florist scissors and stronger secateurs, especially useful for cutting tough woody stems like those needed for Christmas wreaths.

Oasis Small Knife

First up in our list of essential flower arranging tools is the handy Oasis small knife. This tool is ideal for trimming and sizing down Oasis bricks before soaking. These knives are small enough to store safely in your flower toolbox. With a bright yellow handle, they aren’t easily lost amongst foliage, and their lightweight design makes them easy to use. We use them daily in our studio to create beautiful bespoke floral designs, and our flower school students also find them super handy in our workshops and classes.

Flower Foliage Stripper

Next, let's talk about the Flower foliage stripper! This tool is a firm favourite in our studio and a must-have during Valentine's Day for stripping hundreds of red rose stems when speed is crucial due to high demand. This flexible flower tool fits perfectly in your tool apron, floristry toolbox, and importantly doesn’t take up too much space on your workbench. Easy to hold and gentle on your hand, this tool fits in the palm of your hand for simple use while protecting your hand from thorns. It's soft on stems but strong enough to remove foliage and small thorns. I would say this is an indispensable flower arranging tool, and I personally wouldn’t be without it!

Taking Flower Arranging to the Next Level

What Do Flower Arrangers Use Instead of Oasis?

For those looking to take their floristry to a more environmentally conscious role, many flower arrangers are now using alternatives to traditional Oasis floral foam. One such option is the Oasis Bio floral foam brick. In our experience, it really isn’t any different to work with than the original Oasis floral foam brick—same colour, size, and consistency. However, the crucial difference is that it degrades by 91% in three years, making it more environmentally friendly. We found you can achieve exactly the same visual floral design but with peace of mind thanks to this simple switch.
